I stopped taking photographs in the mid 70s when I lost my darkroom..my experiences with photo labs was expensive and a waste of time as they didnt see what I saw so I gave up and threw away all my darkroom. I began again when digital arrived as it was possible then to crop and reset the image how I wanted it ..many of my early images were poorly printed as I was learning as I went. I am not a photographer , I just take photographs along the way and care little for expensive equipment relying more on where I point the camera and when I press the shutter..I like to see what the camera does within its own technical manufacture almost as much as my own capability .No matter how poorly designed I like to see how it performs ... In fact it adds to my interest the cheaper and more basic as its like a pinhole camera ..the first one . I wish I could start taking pictures again from the beginning as I would do it differently
